Your guide to Office Cleaning

The following article can work as a guide for the process of office cleaning for a comfortable and healthy work environment.

The first thing you need to do is make sure the area is ready and that you have the right equipment with youYou'll need to gather all of the necessary cleaning chemicals, equipment and accessories for the job. Load up your cleaning cart with supplies and chemicals and head towards the areas that require cleaning.

You may need the warning sign for mopping depending on the type of cleaning you are about to do.

Every day cleaning tasks

  1. Check the area for debris or paper and throw them away
  2. Vacuum up any dirt or debris that can't be removed by hand
  3. If there are any spots or stains on the carpets, floors, walls, furniture or baseboards immediately wipe those up.

Tasks on a weekly basis

  1. Dust all surfaces, including desks, filing cabinets, cubicle walls and shelves.
  2. Empty trash cans and replace garbage bags
  3. Wipe down desks, telephones, calculators, and computer keyboards thoroughly using a disinfectant that has been sprayed on a microfiber cloth
  4. Dust heating vents, ledges, door jambs and window sills at any reachable level.
  5. Dust mop all tiled or hard surface floors
  6. Vacuum all carpeted floors, starting with the mats and runners
  7. Wet mop all hard floor surfaces: This is a trickier part as there are some things to be taken into consideration.

Many offices choose tiles instead of carpeting because they are easier to clean. However, fungi and bacteria also grow on tile and need thorough mopping but also proper drying.

Also tiles themselves may be easy to clean and sanitize, but the real challenge comes with the grout, which can absorb and become home to germs, bacteria, and mold. The traditional cleaning with a wet mop and bucket will do the work here but you will also need to:

  • Vacuum often - This will help remove dirt and grit that may become lodged in the grout and enable bacterial growth
  • Use Grout Cleaner – Try using a specialized grout cleaner to maintain your floors clean and stop grout from absorbing germs
  • Avoid Using Sponge Mops - Sponge mops can actually make things worse by pushing dirt and grime into your grout, so it's better to use a string mop
  • Change Water Bucket Often - Don't mop large areas of tile without changing your water bucket. Make sure you use clean water, even if that means changing the water quite often

Tasks for each month

  1. Clean wall-mounted units such as paper towel dispensers
  2. Polish desks, tables, chairs, and any other wood objects by using a furniture polish to help maintain a professional shine.
  3. Dust or vacuum all vents, overhead circular fans, and behind hard to reach areas like tables and desks.
  4. Clean all windows, glass doors with a glass cleaner to remove all marks and fingerprints.

Tasks for every 6 months

  1. Strip and recoat any tiled floors to remove scuff marks and any imperfections in the finish.
  2. Remove all carpeting, runners, mats and upholstery and have them professionally cleaned.

Clean Up and store equipment

Immediately clean all equipment, mop buckets and other cleaning gear making sure there are no chemicals or excess water left. Rinse out the mops and hang them to dry. Put all cleaning supplies and accessories back onto the cleaning cart, and return it to its original storage place. All garbage bags should be disposed and all wet floor signs removed. Any furniture and objects that were moved, can now return to their places.

Remember that a cleaning cart is the ideal way to keep all your supplies and waste in a mobile platform.
